Welcome to Amanda Robin Whiteman's Memorial Asthma Page
|
At the age of 2 Years old Amanda was Hospitalized
with Pneumonia, it was at this time that we were told
that she was a borderline asthmatic and that she would
out grow it. Over the next 8.5 years she had about 6
bouts where she needed to use a nebulizer. Usually
when she would bring a cold home from school. She
had not had an episodes in almost a year, it was
in the fall of 2003 that her & her brother were diagnosted
with Strep Throat and she ended up needing her nebulizer.
If your child or anyone you know has Asthma take it very
serious and learn all that you can. Not always will you get
time to see any of the symptoms. With Amanda she was very
excited as she had just started middle School and met new
friends. She kept telling us how she could not wait for
tomorrow so that she could get back to Horizon Middle School
and her new classes & friends. She did not have any of the
normal symptoms that an Asthma Attack was coming on.
My wife & I put her to bed at around 9:00pm and gave
her Hugs, Kisses and told her how much we loved her.
We also wished her happy dreams and that we would see her
in the morning. At about 9:45pm my wife and I got ready
to go to bed and we checked on both children. Our son
was sound asleep in his bed but we could not find Amanda
in her bed. I found her on the far side of her bed face down.
She had gotten out of bed and straighted her sheets and
it appears she was going after her Inhaler (about 4 steps
from her bed) and never made it. The Muscles around her Lungs
constricted and forced the air out and she collapes and never
could get air. There was not a sound from her to warn us
that she was in trouble.

Asthma Walk

The American Lung Association®,
can give you close to 20 million
reasons why we need to
"Blow the Whistle on Asthma"
and how you can help fight the
asthma epidemic. Close to 20
million Americans currently
have asthma. You probably
know someone who suffers from
this chronic disease. It
could be a family member, a
young child, a co-worker,
a neighbor or maybe even you.
Asthma isn't always obvious;
you can't always tell an Asthma
sufferer from looking at them.
Though you cannot always see asthma,
you can see and count its devastating
effects. Asthma is responsible for
over 14 million lost school days in
children. Even more frightening is
the fact that asthma can be fatal;
over 4,000 deaths are attributed to
asthma annually. The economic cost
of asthma is unbelievable - over
$16.1 billion dollars is spent
annually.
Asthma Walk is a nation wide
effort to bring attention to this
devastating chronic illness.
We know a lot about asthma, but
there is so much we don't know.
Your participation will raise
the funds necessary to provide
education and research so we
can better control asthma and
soon find a cure.

Encouraging Word:
Saturday 12/31/2005
Live a life filled with love for others, following the example of Christ, who
loved you and gave himself as a sacrifice to take away your sins. And God was pleased, because that sacrifice was like sweet perfume to him.
Ephesians 5:2, NLT
